LVMH announces the Names of Finalists and Jury Members of the 2019 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers
On March 27, 2019, LVMH announced the list of finalists of the 2019 edition of LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. Out of 20 young semi-finalists that presented their collections in Paris on March 1st and 2nd, 2019, a panel of 63 experts selected the eight designers that will be presenting their collection at the Foundation Louis Vuitton in front of the prestigious final jury in June 2019.
Delphine Arnault, executive vice-president of Louis Vuitton, prides herself of the diversity of the candidates that participated to this year’s edition of the competition: It’s the first edition that welcomed two African candidates from Nigeria and South Africa, as well as an Israeli candidate at this stage of the competition. Mrs. Arnault noted as well the recurrence of two dominating themes among several finalists: the issue of sustainability and gender fluidity. 4 out of the eight finalists have designed genderless garments that could be worn by both men and women. The Vice-President could not help but spare a thought to Karl Lagerfeld, praising his creative genius and how inspiring and supportive he was with people who had the chance to work with him and stated that the LVMH Prize will not be quite the same now that he is gone.
The 8 finalists are:
